Craftsbury Chamber Players Concert VI
Wednesday, Aug 21st at 8:00 PM, UVM’s Recital Hall, Redstone Campus, Burlington; Thursday, Aug 22nd at 8:00 PM, Hardwick Town House, Hardwick

The concert opens with Sergey Prokofiev’s, pieces from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64 arranged for viola and piano by violist Vadim Borisovsky and played by Kenji Bunch (viola) and Monica Ohuchi (piano).

The work is luscious and fiery, soft and melodic at once to cover all of the emotions of this famous tale by Shakespeare.

Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestucke, Op. 73 was written for clarinet and piano, but later arranged for viola as we will hear tonight played by Carol Rodland and accompanied by Marcantonio Barone on the piano. The piece is whimsical and melodic and finishes in an exuberant frenzy.

The concert concludes with the Quintet in D Major, Op. 51 by Anton Arensky composed in 1900. While it exhibits the influence of Tchaikovsky there is a good deal of Schumann here as well. The players include Ming Yang and Mary Rowell on violins, Frances Rowell on cello and both Rodland (viola) and Barone (piano).

Tickets can be purchased at the door beginning at 7:30: $25 for adults and $10 for students with ID. Children 12 and under free.

In the afternoon of the evening performances, Craftsbury players offer a FREE mini concert for children of all ages and their guests (Wednesday @ 4:30, UVM Recital Hall; Thursday @ 2:00, Greensboro United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 165 Wilson St.) For More Information Jim West, 1-800-639-3443.
