TOGETHER once again
Saturday, July 3rd
The Independence Day Committee in West Windsor is excited to announce that we're full speed ahead for a grand Brownsville Independence Day Celebration in 2021!!!! This year, because the 4th falls on a Sunday, 2021 will see a combined celebration on one day, Saturday, July 3rd. What a fabulous way to celebrate Vermont's journey back to normalcy!
Once again, during the day in the village from 8:30 AM – 3 PM, there will be a community breakfast, lively music, games, a bouncy house, diverse food vendors, crafts, a book sale, and a GALA PARADE at 1:00 PM.
For the first time this year, we're excited to announce that the Mt. Sinai Shriners Clown Unit will be participating in the parade!
And then, in the evening at Ascutney Outdoors from 6 PM until approximately 9 PM, we will all enjoy music, food, family picnics (no barbeques, please), and of course, SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS at dusk.
Local organizations and sponsors are all working hard to make this special celebration a true community event. Participating organizations include many area Volunteer Fire Departments, the Windsor Police Department, the West Windsor Historical Society, the Mary L. Blood Library, Lucy McKenzie Humane Society, Brownsville Community Church, Ascutney Outdoors, Mt. Ascutney Hospital, the Moonlighters Snowmobile Club, the Albert Bridge School, members of our equestrian community and more. This annual special event has been enjoyed by families from West Windsor, Windsor, Ascutney, Weathersfield, Hartland, Reading, Woodstock, Quechee and many other surrounding Vermont and New Hampshire towns and villages for many years.
To make this year's celebration a reality, volunteers are needed. Contact the IDC Committee at BrownsvilleIDC@gmail.com if you would like to become a volunteer at any level.
Although the traditional two days of Independence Day festivities last year had to be cancelled due to COVID19, the Independence Day Committee was still able to promote this special patriotic holiday in 2020. The Committee and its volunteers put out decorations in the village and created banners thanking our "Home Town Heroes" that were highlighted in the village display case. We also continued to supply the West Windsor Fire Department with the American flags that fly proudly throughout the village in the spring, summer and fall. Thank you to the WWFD volunteers for their assistance.
Last year, when we had to cancel our normal celebration, neighbors and local businesses decorated their homes & buildings with festive patriotic embellishments. Everyone throughout West Windsor is encouraged to do so again this year in celebration of Independence Day and being "TOGETHER once again"!
The 2021 Independence Day Committee is offering IDC t-shirts for sale prior to the July 3 celebrations so folks can wear them on the big day. They come in red, white & blue & and range in price from $10 to $20.
Anyone wishing to purchase t-shirts can contact Bill & Linda Ley at 802-484-3200 or ParrisHill@comcast.net. Shirts can be picked up on Saturday, June 26 or Sunday, June 27. Buyers will be advised time & location when placing their order.
There is an on-line link that accepts your generous donations by credit card at https://fundrazr.com/BrownsvilleIDC. You can also mail a check made payable to "Brownsville IDC" to P.O. Box 37, Brownsville, VT 05037.
It is always possible that COVID complications may arise which may result in a scaling back of the celebration. Of course, we will follow the protocols in place at the time, but for now it's "full speed ahead"!
We are ever grateful to the Town of West Windsor, to our individual donors and to our volunteers for their continued support of the community and this annual American tradition.
We'd like to recognize the generous sponsors who play a very big part in the success of this celebration. They include DLX Excavating, Dark Horse Realty, Doolittle's Print Serve, 4 Generations, Ennis Construction, Holiday Inn Mount Ascutney Resort, Kurtzhalz Excavation, Leland Company, Martin Delaney & Ricci Law, Mascoma Bank, Mt. Ascutney Hospital, Parris Hill Farm, Pizza Chef of Windsor, Prudent Living, Seth Warren Real Estate, Tami's Head Lines, Windsor Post 25 American Legion, Windsor Station Restaurant and Windsor Wine & Spirits.
