Hello Everyone!
My name is Chloe Silverman, and I am a junior at CVU. Fueled by experiences of my own, my friends, loved ones, and all in all the general atmosphere of our society, I am holding a "Take Back the Night" event at CVU. Thanks to the Social Justice Alliance clubs at CVU, and the generous help of those in the community, I am hopeful that this event will send a strong, empowering message.
Take Back the Night is an international organization that works to spread awareness about sexual violence, and end all sorts of sexual violence, abuse, harassment, etc... "Take Back the Night" is the earliest worldwide effort to combat sexual violence. Marches and rallies have occurred all over the world, since the 1970s. This particular event consists of a march/walk, keynote speakers, an open mic, and a candlelight vigil. The goal is to unite ALL people around the above mission to end sexual violence. No one should feel endangered walking alone at night or have to put their keys between their fingers... For many, women, in particular, feeling endangered has become the norm: it's time to take back our nights, and our right to feel safe.
The event is open to the public. A raffle with all proceeds to the foundation will have local prizes, such as a 50$ gift card to the Skinny Pancake! The more people that can come, the greater the impact. :)
The starting location will be near the bus port on the backside of CVU, and the event will start at 7:30 and go until around 9:30. Spread the word! Glowsticks and candles will be provided...
