Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Join us on Zoom from 2 - 3:30 PM on Sunday, May 30, 2021 for another excellent free community-building arts and culture program that includes a fun co-creation activity. We'll learn about African and African-American media, representation, and culture in film and photographic art from prize-winning artistry and scholarship of filmakers Dr. Reginald Jackson, Founder and President of Olaleye Communications, Inc., and Natasha Ngaiza, Assistant Professor of Film and Media Culture at Middlebury College.
We'll send you a zoom link to the program in the morning on Sunday, May 30.
MORE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:
Our 90-minute program-The Power of Image: Media By and For the Community-explores the work of these two incredible transnational scholars and artists while exploring the important contributions of African-American and African Diaspora filmmakers and photographers. We'll discuss representation and dynamics of power within the industry, and learn about the suppression, opportunities, and responsibilities with creating and capturing narratives. We'll also gain insights into how Africans and African-Americans show their cultures through film and photography and how we can work together in ways that build community across the diaspora.
As always, this program will include a co-creation activity as a fun way for the audience to engage directly with our guest artists and make some art together. Have your cell phone handy!
This program is co-hosted by our Storytelling Room series Creative Director, Pamela Donohoo. It will include a welcome by the Clemmonses and a snippet of a Clemmons family home movie from the 1970s.
See you on Sunday, May 30 from 2 - 3:30 PM on Zoom!
