We are thrilled to share our love of the land and our love for our community with you in our first outdoor community-building arts and culture program of the year. Please join us for a walk-and-talk to the magic meadow on the Clemmons farm, meet the wild irises, and create art in their company.
We are offering two art-and-nature sessions: Saturday, June 5 from 9 - 11 AM for those who want to immerse themselves in painting, drawing or photography; and Sunday, June 6 from 2 - 4 PM for those who want to immerse themselves in music. Both sessions will be inspired by the poetry of African-American literary artists who celebrate nature.
ITINERARY:
1. Meet up on the Barn House lawns and get to know each other; leave any personal items you don't want to carry in the Barn House (5 min)
2. Wild Iris educational talk, poem, guided meditation (15 min)
3. Tick precautions: put on tick spray, put on waterproof boots, tuck pants inside socks, etc. (5 min)
4. Walk-and-talk to the magic meadow (5 min)
5. Meet and marvel : enjoy the wild irises- sketch, write, photograph! (15 min)
6. Return to the Barn House lawns (5 min)
7. Rest break: change shoes or clothes if you want to feel more comfortable (10 min)
8. Sit in our co-creation circle and make art : folding chairs are provided (30 minutes)
9. Share our art and discuss (30 minutes)
10. Sighs and goodbyes!
POETRY:
We'll share some of our favorite poems by African-American poets about wild irises and nature. Conservation Artist Jessica Jones, will read one of these aloud at the beginning of our time together. Bring your own favorite nature poem and read yours aloud to share with everyone, too!
