This Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 and 30, 11-5, local artists will continue the annual statewide open studio tour tradition. Art in Bellows Falls, a collective of artists will gather at 33 Bridge St in Bellows Falls. This group of local artists began meeting about 10 years ago, with Robert McBride, founding director of the Rockingham Arts and Museum Project (RAMP), to encourage artists to participate in the annual open studio tour and collaborate on the marketing events focusing on the arts throughout the Month of May.
When the COVID pandemic shuttered open studios and other arts events last year, the group continued to meet monthly. Although the VT Craft Council chose to postpone this year's statewide event until June 19, the group decided to venture on its own maintaining the Memorial Day Weekend tradition.
At 33 Bridge Street visit Chris Sherwin and Nick Kekic in their glass studios, Scott Morgan painting, Judy Lidie's handmade soaps and in addition for just this weekend Clare Adams painted glass, Jeanette Staley's collage, home decor and more. Others may join. The collective has developed a facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/ArtinBellowsFalls that provides a space for local artists to post the work they would like to share and for visitors to the area to discover our creative community.
Bellows Falls, located in southeastern VT along the CT River is a walkable community that offers a mixture of intriguing galleries, bookstores, shops, eclectic eateries, a real hardware store and incredible brick architecture!
Start at 33 Bridge St, shop from the artisans for a gift for yourself or someone on your special list then work your way through antique and book shops, stop for lunch or coffee and a treat and continue to the Canal St Gallery located in the Exner Block.
