On Saturday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM, we will reopen our doors with a special event featuring Charlie Mackesy's internationally beloved book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
Thanks to a generous donation from Stewart's through their Holiday Match initiative, WVL is able to give 20 families a free copy of Mackesy's story of friendship, kindess and encouragement.
Rarely does a book come along that has such a profound impact on its readers. It's restorative and inspirational. The words and art are beautiful. It's a book for all ages.
Those who've read it know cake plays a role in the story. Accordingly, we'll be serving delicious cupcakes made by the Wells Country Store. We also plan to hold a free drawing for a lovely gift basket that includes three stuffed animals – a mole, a fox and a horse. Nan, our chipmunk mascot, will join the fun between 11:30 AM and our 1PM closing. Books and cupcakes are first come, first served.
Having been in contact with Mackesy, we invited him to the library's reopening. While he is unable to attend, he sent a note: "Hello Wells, Vermont! I really hope you like the book and I'm so grateful to you for being so enthusiastic. I've always wanted to visit Vermont. One day, I will. I'll come to Wells. Yours, Charlie."
This event will mark the return of WVL's regular hours: Saturday, Monday and Tuesday from 9 AM to 1 PM and Thursdays from 3 to 7 PM.
