The St. Johnsbury Town Energy Committee is committed to pursuing actions that will help lower all citizens' carbon footprint. Please read our brief periodic postings (below) for information on how you can help.
On Tuesday May 18 at 6 pm, the St. Johnsbury Planning Commission will hold a public hearing via Zoom on a proposal to amend its Municipal Plan to add a new energy element that meets the enhanced municipal energy planning standards established by state statute. If adopted and certified, the amended municipal plan would receive "substantial deference" in Public Utility Commission proceedings for reviewing proposed renewable energy projects. To achieve substantial deference, the proposed amendment supports policies to attain the goals of the State's 2016 Comprehensive Energy Plan.
The enhanced energy element was developed by the St. Johnsbury Town Energy Committee in coordination with Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA).
You can attend the public hearing via at the Zoom link below. If you cannot attend the hearing next Tuesday night, you can send written comments to Planning Commission, 51 Depot Square, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819, and should be received by the hearing date.
Information concerning this hearing may be obtained from H. Paul Berlejung, zoning officer, at 802-748-3926, extension 3, or by email at zoning@stjvt.com.
