May 15-22 is Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Awareness Week in VT. EAB is an invasive insect that is devastating the ash tree population. The insect has been identified in Richmond and in Bristol as well as throughout many other locations in VT, but to date not in Huntington.
As part of Huntington's efforts to spread awareness we will be posting information about EAB and related resources that are available so that we can all stay informed. We also recently received an EAB Community Awareness Kit from VT Urban and Community Forestry that includes information about EAB for our community.
To kick off EAB Awareness Week we are going hold a tree tagging event at the Village Green on Saturday, May 15 from 1-2pm. The goal of this event is to tag ash trees on the on the Village Green with posters about EAB. The posters will stay up for a few weeks so please stop to check them out if you are not able to attend on Saturday.
We will also be discussing ash tree identification and other EAB efforts that are ongoing in our town. We are hoping to place EAB information at other locations in Huntington such as the Community Forest and on the Burrows and Beane trails, so please stay tuned for more information and other upcoming events.
