About the Underhill Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Project
Underhill has so many beautiful and special places; our forests and meadows, our streams and wetlands, our native plants and animals. These natural resources are valued by residents as one of the reasons they live here. Some of our prized resources are well known, but the town doesn't have a good inventory of what we have nor a map that shows us where.

The Underhill Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Project is a joint project by the Planning Commission and Conservation Commission and is being conducted to fulfill requirements identified in our Town Plan. This project will compile what we know about our natural resources to help prioritize and manage our natural resources. Our town has competing priorities for land use such as preserving scenic vistas, housing needs, and renewable energy sites. Future land use planning will need to balance our desire to maintain the rural character of the town, with planning for where development is best suited.
Over the next year this project team will gather information from existing sources and hire an expert consultant for additional data collection from the field. After this data collection and mapping phase is completed we will begin a public involvement process, including presentations on our findings and to collect input on areas of importance to residents.

Meanwhile this committee, in conjunction with the Conservation Commission, is offering a series of presentations and field workshops to draw attention to our natural resources.
