Global Day of Action:
Stop Funding Line 3 Tar Sands Pipeline Rally
Friday May 7th 4:30-5:30 PM at TD bank in Montpelier

Why? Friday, May 7th is a global day of action to call for the financial institutions backing Line 3, like TD Bank, to stop funding Enbridge and their Tar Sands pipeline. Line 3 would ultimately run through precious wetlands and the treaty territory of Anishinaabe peoples, crossing the Mississippi River headwaters to the shore of Lake Superior. Line 3 violates Indigenous sovereignty and rights jeopardizing the Wild Rice that is central to the Anishinaabe people. It brings man camps to Anishinaabe communities that increase the incidence of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, and it perpetuates the climate crisis. You can learn more here.

What: Peaceful rally outside TD Bank as part of the Global Day of Action to Defund Line 3. We will have signs, chalk for writing sidewalk messages, and more information on how to get involved, as well as postcards and digital actions folks can take during the event. All and any are welcome! If you feel comfortable, please RSVP here if you're interested in joining us! (We are trying to get a general idea of numbers for COVID safety). If you'd prefer not to fill out the form, we would still love to have you drop by Friday!

Action Agreements: We ask that if you come to the rally you agree to adhere to the following agreements:

I will wear a mask at all times.
I will remain six feet apart from others not in my pod at all times.
Due to the virus, I will not enter the bank so as not to unnecessarily endanger innocent employees.
I will not engage in actions that have a risk of arrest. People who are imprisoned are among the most vulnerable in our society and getting arrested during this action would further put them at risk.
I will be dignified and respectful in my behavior and communication - these are serious issues, and we are worthy of respect.
I will recognize that indigenous people are central to this struggle and will not engage in erasing or appropriating their experiences and history
I promise to be nonviolent and peaceful in all of my activities during the action. I will not engage in destruction or defacement of property or in actions that could physically harm another person.
I assume all risks that may stem from taking part in this action. I will take accountability for my actions.
I will not criticize, attack or undermine anyone's actions to the police, the media, or the public at large, but will make any concerns I have known to the organizations involved in order to improve our work together.
