A Conversation On School Budgets
Facilitated by Daniel Baron
May 12, 2014 at Burlington College
Are You concerned about school budgets?
You are invited to a public facilitated conversation about school budgets that will be held at Burlington College on May 12th from 7 to 9 pm. The conversation will be loosely based on the book Smarter Budgets and Smarter Schools by Nathan Levenson. The conversation will focus on four guiding principles stated in the book.
Invite embracing “crazy ideas”
Making better informed decisions
Spend only on what works
Align interests
If you would like to read the book current members of the Burlington School Board have copies of the book. There will be a copy available at the Fletcher Free Library. The book is available to purchase online and there is a Kindle version.
Our goal is to get community input around budget issues and possible solutions and then provide this information to the school board. Although it is too late to affect the budget for FY 2015 these discussions will be timely for early Board discussions for FY 2016. We take seriously the importance of providing an excellent education to the children of Burlington. We do not want the citizens of Burlington, the teachers and children to lose out while the adults in authority -School Board and City Administration- work on current financial issues. This conversation will be held with the understanding that the Burlington School District has endorsed the concept of providing all employees a living wage.
