*Making Forests More Bird-Friendly*
a Vermont Land Trust program, in conjunction with Audubon Vermont and Hogback Mt. Conservation Association
Not all forests are equally hospitable to birds. A few years ago Audubon Vermont started several related programs with the goal of making our state's forests more bird-friendly. One aspect of the program works with foresters and loggers; another aims to educate landowners.
In this May 3 program, representatives from the Vermont Land Trust and Audubon Vermont will use a walk on Hogback's trails and slopes to introduce participants to the:
- Birder's Dozen and habitat assessment basics
- Vermont Forest Bird Initiative
- Foresters for the Birds program
- Silviculture with Birds in Mind guidelines
Landowners will have a chance to discuss their own property with VLT and Audubon representatives and see whether it qualifies for a free bird habitat assessment by an Audubon Vermont naturalist.
Meet at 9:00 at the Grant Road entrance to the Hogback trails. Contact Pieter van Loon, forester for the Vermont Land Trust, to sign up for the free program. 802-246-1502 or pieter@vlt.org. Attendance limited.
