The Barre Historical Society/Old Labor Hall celebrates International Workers' Day with a free on-line showing of ""Haymarket–the Bomb, the Anarchists, the Labor Struggle," Saturday, May 1, 4-6:15 p.m.

"Haymarket" investigates the 1886 Chicago Haymarket Affair, when a bomb disrupted a peaceful rally in support of an eight-hour work day. The panic and violence that followed left at least eleven people dead and led to the trial and conviction of eight workers' rights activists. The Haymarket Affair was viewed as a setback for the organized labor movement in America. At the same time, many in the labor movement viewed the convicted men as martyrs.
