Sidewalk/Crosswalk Audit & Village Litter Cleanup

Past event
May 1, 2021, 10 AM to 12 PM

In 2020, Cambridge was one of only a few communities across the US selected to take part in the EPA's Rural Economies for Recreational Economy planning process. There were many virtual meetings, and workshops, and a great deal of community interest and input.

One of the action items to emerge from that process is to "initiate a comprehensive sidewalk audit and community survey of the Village to identify where there needs to be sidewalks installed, repaired, or improved for better access to community assets and safe walking and biking."

So, to kick off the Village sidewalk audit, we need volunteers on Saturday, May 1st (rain date: Sunday, May 2) to help map our sidewalks. Volunteers will be given about a mile of Village sidewalk to walk and assess. We'll be noting things like:

-surface (slate, concrete, dirt, asphalt, none)
-width of sidewalk
-condition & safety (where is is broken, uneven, missing altogether)
-accessibility for all ages and abilities

At the same time, we'll take the time to clean up our streets. Trash bags and safety vests will be available.

The information we take from our sidewalk audit will be used to create a sitemap for our community so we can easily see where the sidewalks need to be installed, repaired or improved.
