Do you know how much topsoil the world is losing every year? Do you know how topsoil can be built? Do you know how much carbon can be sequestered in the soil?
David Montgomery wrote a very readable book about his travels all over the world visiting farms and farmers, gardens and gardeners, looking at how they are building soil, and how wrong our assumptions about soil were, and how regenerating soil will also reduce carbon being released into the atmosphere helping to reduce global warming. The event is being held during International Composting Week. It will help you realize why Vermont has a composting law and why we need policies to change the way we treat our soil.
Jeudevine Library is having a discussion about Montgomery's book: GROWING A REVOLUTION: Bringing our soil back to life. The discussion will take place Friday, May 7th, at 5:15 pm. The event will be in-person at the Atkins Field Pavilion on Granite St. in Hardwick. We thank the Center for Ag for the use of the pavilion. Please wear a mask!
Copies of the book are available to check-out now. Either call the library (472-5948) or email the library (jeudevinememoriallibrary@gmail.com) to reserve a copy of the book.
