Dear Neighbor,
Burlington Water Resources is pleased to announce an upcoming opportunity for ratepayers to learn about the final Water Rate Restructuring and Affordability Initiatives proposal before we bring it to the City Council for approval. We appreciate the participation of our ratepayers and decision makers in our numerous public outreach events for the project over the past two years and are excited to share the results with you.
The two primary goals of our proposal are equity and affordability. Sustainable funding is crucial to ensuring access to clean water. Burlington's water infrastructure requires ongoing maintenance, repairs, and generational upgrades to produce and distribute clean water to our users. However, when utility costs become unaffordable, it can jeopardize access to the essential water needed to live.
Please join us on Wednesday, April 14th 2021 @ 7 pm for this important conversation.
We will be discussing how the proposal allows the City to make essential water usage more affordable, ensures we can better recover costs for certain types of water access and provides bill discount opportunities for seniors and income qualified rate payers. Residents can expect to better understand how they might be impacted by the proposed changes, what type of credit or review programs they qualify for and the timeline for approval and implementation.
We hope that you will consider joining us.
