The Huntington Conservation Commission is sponsoring "Ecological Forestry for a Complex World," a program with Dr. Tony D'Amato, director of the University of Vermont's Forestry Program, on Wednesday, April 14 at 7 pm.

In a changing world, as people understand more about the way that forests and other ecosystems function, how can forests be managed as more than just trees? In this presentation, Dr. Tony D'Amato will discuss "ecological forestry," which seeks to manage forests as complete, complex ecosystems that are adaptive and resilient, and in a way that protects their ability to sequester and store carbon. Rather than managing solely for economic value, ecological forestry considers the integrity of ecosystems as well as the social and cultural impacts of resource production. Dr. D'Amato has coauthored well over 100 peer-reviewed articles and is coauthor of Ecological Silviculture: Foundations and Applications.
