Children should ride as safely as possible every trip, every time!

The Chittenden / Franklin County SHARP Program, the Shelburne Police and Fire Departments, the Vermont Department of Health, and the Vermont Office of Highway Safety, are sponsoring the first 2021 Child Passenger Safety Check event.

With the warm weather and the gradual loosening of COVID restrictions, more and more of us will be travelling. Whether it's a trip to the mall or a family vacation, we want to make sure your most precious cargo is traveling in the safest manner possible.

We are inviting the public and the press to our first fitting station event this year. This free event is open to the public.

When: April 3, 2021 09:00am until 12:00pm
Where: Shelburne Fire Department, 5420 Shelburne Road, Shelburne, VT
Cost: Free.

This is the first of many events to raise the awareness of parents and caregivers about the dangers children face when they are riding in a vehicle. Our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand to inspect car seats and booster seats to ensure they are safe and installed correctly.

To ensure the safety of the public and our technician, COVID-19 safety protocols, to include a screening station, will be in place. Masks and sanitizer will be available, and we ask that all attendees follow safe practices and social distancing in line with the Governor's Mandate and CDC guidelines.

"Child passenger safety seats are designed to protect our youngest passengers in the event of a crash, but these seats cannot work as designed when they are not installed correctly," said Sid Bradley, Coordinator of the Vermont Child Passenger Safety Program.

Lt. Allen Fortin, leader of the Chittenden / Franklin County SHARP Group, said "We want to ensure that all children who are under eight years of age are riding in a correctly-installed safety seat that is appropriate for their age and size."

Appointments are not required, but if you would like to schedule an appointment for Saturday's event please contact Lt. Fortin at 802-316-0620 or Sid Bradley at 802-734-0510.
