Equity Counts Project: New Americans

Past event
Mar 20, 2021, 10:30 AM to 12 PM

March 20th at 10:30am, join us for a virtual event to observe International Open Data Day to explore social justice for new Americans in Vermont by finding, compiling, and analyzing data. We are Code for BTV, an all volunteer organization focused on civic technology. No prior knowledge or skills required.

We will focus on topics such as:

- How many new Americans have had COVID?
- Are testing and vaccination information and sign-up options from the state providing equitable access to new American Vermonters?
- Where do we need to focus on new housing or childcare to support social equity for our new American neighbors?
- How many have equitable access to expungement or civil court?

The event will start with a guided discussion to identify priorities in the data, and transition into an open working session where we seek, compile, and try to answer some of these questions. This is only a beginning and will start a longer term effort to produce open data that supports our new American neighbors and family.

All are welcome. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. Besides contributing to collective brainpower during brainstorming, we'll need help with searching for existing data (using Google, Bing, etc.), collecting and compiling data (using Google Sheets, Excel, Github, etc.), and analyzing data (mapping, charting, statistics, etc.).
