Baseball Legend Bill Lee in Jeffersonville

Past event
May 3, 2014, 3:30 to 5 PM

The Varnum Memorial Library in Jeffersonville is hosting Spaceman Bill Lee. We are having a celebration for the game often referred to as Americas national past time. Bill is the legendary former Red Sox and the Expo southpaw. Today, he is the hardest working guy in baseball, always up for action and well known for his wit and charm. The Crescendo Club members are baking up apple themed light refreshments to accompany this event. Everyone knows Cambridge has the greatest cooks! Bill is getting his own pie. Baseball, mom and apples go together. Bring mom for a thoughtful early Mothers Day gift.
The Spaceman has an impressive resume that includes playing for the Boston Red Sox from 1969-1978 and the Montreal Expos from 1979-1982. He started two games in the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. He left both the 2nd and 7th games with the Sox in the lead, but they lost both games and the World Series. Bill spent three years with the Expos after he was traded for Stan Papi, a utility infielder. Bill Lee won 16 games for the Expos in 1979, and was named The Sporting News National League Left Hander of the Year.
Bill is a good hearted guy and he takes the game seriously. This quote is from the book he wrote with Dick Lally. " The Wrong Stuff". On page 242 the book closes with this quote: If I am remembered by anyone, I would want it to be as a guy who cared about the planet and the welfare of his fellow man. And who would take you out at second if the game was on the line. The Varnum Library has a collection of Bill Lee's books ready to check out.
At our baseball celebration our famous Red Sox Baseball raffle tickets will be available. Only 250 tickets will be sold at $10.00 each. The winning ticket will allow four people to travel by coach to see the Red Sox square off against the Yankees August 2nd. Please join us at the Varnum to banish thoughts of cold and gloom and meet Bill at this FREE spring event on Green Up Day, May 3rd at 3:30pm. more info. 644-2117
