Writers on the Rise is a spotlight reading series designed to uplift and amplify the diverse talent of a wide range of voices and creative visions.

Ina Cariño is a Filipinx American poet who holds an MFA in creative writing from North Carolina State University. Their poetry appears in Waxwing, New England Review, and Tupelo Quarterly, among other journals. Ina is a Kundiman fellow, and is a Pushcart-nominated poet. In December of 2019, Ina founded a reading series, Indigena Collective, centering othered and underrepresented creatives in the NC community, including but not limited to BIPOC, QTPOC, and people with disabilities. Through their writing, Ina explores themes such as the transformation of the brown body through space + time, the lived experience of being an immigrant in America, and the prevalent and deeply impactful effects of existing in diaspora. They hope to find paths to not just justice, but also to healing—of self and of community.

The Writers on the Rise reading series is sponsored by the Rona Jaffe Foundation.
