Vermonters with an interest in science and exploration can learn more about NASA's initiatives by participating in a Zoom call during the live landing of the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover on Feb. 18, 2021 at 2 p.m.
The call will be hosted by NASA Solar System Ambassadors (SSA) from all over Vermont. As the NASA event feed is being shared the ambassadors will be on hand to answer questions from the public about the Perseverance rover, its goals and the mission overview.
Perseverance lands Feb. 18, carrying new science instruments and technologies, including the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter. During its mission Perseverance will use a drill on the end of its robotic arm to capture surface samples in metal tubes, which it will deposit on the surface of Mars for a future mission to collect and return to Earth. The rover will seek signs of ancient life on the Red Planet as a primary goal. The Perseverance rover will afford humanity a unique and exciting opportunity to peer into Mars' past and learn more about our origins.
Those interested should register by emailing SSA Scott Turnbull at scott.e.turnbull@gmail.com to receive the Zoom call link.
Solar System Ambassadors are volunteers enlisted and vetted by NASA/JPL. They spread awareness and knowledge of all NASA programs, both crewed and uncrewed.
