Our Current Brews and suggested tasting order
Bourbon Mash Amber Ale – This beer is inspired by a traditional Kentucky bourbon recipe. We added Vermont grown corn, rye and hops to a base of Golden Promise malt to craft a malt-forward American Amber style ale. It is smooth and at 7% ABV, a little sneaky.
Black Beer – Style-wise this falls somewhere between a German Black Lager and a strong porter. The malt and hops are true to the Black Lager, but it is too strong for the style and we use an English Ale yeast instead of lager yeast. But it doesn’t have the burnt bite of the porter. It tastes great cold, but the malt character really comes out as it warms up. This beer surprises a lot of folks who don’t normally like dark beer. 6.4% ABV
Palomino Pale Ale – an American Pale Ale with a generous addition of wheat malt to give it some spice, and dry hopped with 3 types of hops to provide the fruity/citrusy/ floral hop aromatics. (dry hopping is when you add hops to the fermenter instead of the brew kettle) The 3 hop types are Amarillo, Sterling and Willamette [pronounced will-AM-it, not will-am-ETTE. If you get it right you will impress beer geeks and West Coasters]. If this beer was a horse, the color would be called palomino (golden body, blonde mane and tail) 6.2% ABV
Beers on deck for May
Latigo – Our interpretation of a Scottish ale, a little stronger than a traditional 80 Shilling with a pinch of peat smoked malt. 5.8% ABV (say LAT-eh-go, not la-TEE-go and you will impress the horse people. Named after saddle strap leather)
Big Belgian Draft – a Belgian style Strong Dark Ale that is just under 9% ABV. This is a slightly “bigger” version of the Black Abbey we brewed last fall.
