Scammers often target older people for fraud and identity theft. Perhaps it's because they are often at home, because they frequently have financial resources, and because they may not be so quick to hang up the phone.
Robin Eichen's Federal Trade Commission presentation will focus on scams, including Coronavirus scams, that most affect older Americans. Robin will emphasize healthcare-related scams and how to recognize and avoid the most common scams. Identity Theft will be discussed, including how it happens, and the FTC's resources that enable victims to recover from it.
In addition, Robin will highlight the FTC's consumer resources, and their new link for reporting fraud – ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The new link makes it easier and more instructive for consumers and consumer representatives to report fraud and attempted fraud to the FTC.
Robin E. Eichen has been an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission's Northeast Region since December 1990, where she has litigated numerous consumer protection cases, including those involving deceptive advertising, work-at-home scams, business coaching scams, telemarketing fraud, Internet fraud, and deceptive debt collection. In September 2003, she received a Director's Award in recognition of her contributions to the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. Ms. Eichen has done numerous outreach presentations to a wide variety of consumer audiences, including senior citizens, students, underserved communities, and military/veterans' groups, as well as small businesses, in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
