For those with ancestors from Great Britain and Ireland, some of the important tools are UK census records. On Saturday, Jan. 30th, British author and researcher, Dr. Penny Walters, will present "Dissecting the British Censuses: 1801 to the Present."
Dr. Walters will deconstruct the information within these documents, revealing tips and hints that will help you unearth important facts about your ancestors. These documents need to be understood from the unique perspective of Britain – they differ enormously form our familiar federal censuses – so come learn from one of Britain's experts.
She will show how the census forms are organized and reveal known problems with specific years. She will also look at what could be considered census substitutes, such as the 1939 Register because there was no census taken in 1941 due to World War II.
The VT Genealogy Library is hosting this noon talk using Zoom's webinar tools. You can attend from the comfort (and warmth) of your home. The class fee is only $10, it includes a handout and a Q&A will be held at its conclusion. To register go to: https://vtgenlib.org/general/2021SpringClasses.php and for questions write to education@vtgenlib.org or call 802-871-5647.
