Attend Thursday April 24 to vote and/or comment now for the first time on Quality Walk-Bike Infrastructure for Burlington
Any resident of Burlington can attend and participate at the regular Walk Bike Council meeting on this Thursday, 5:30-7 p.m. at City Hall and essentially vote for the first time modern walk and bicycle infrastructure as the top priorities for the Council over the next year. Also, if you cannot attend the website address below allow you to submit comments--email your priorities to Charlene@localmotion.org This rare opportunity to participate in a policy direction allows choosing from a long list of near term projects with the three top ones guiding the Council agenda. Here are three new infrastructure choices : (1) a demonstration of protected bike lanes (cycle track/separated bike lanes)—North Avenue and North Winooski Avenue, for examples (spreadsheet project 3); (2) a roundabout demonstration on a busy street--Maple/Battery, an all-ways stop intersection, North Union/North Winooski, Archibald/No. Willard, for examples (spreadsheet project 15); and (3) Champlain Parkway re-design to incorporate quality walk/bike facilities, including separated bicycle lanes (cycle track) and one-lane roundabouts (spreadsheet project 19).
The Burlington Walk Bike Council advises City departments on walk and bike questions and undertakes a number of efforts to promote and serve the walk and bicycle community in Burlington. It also influences about $50,000 a year in walk/bike set aside funds in the Department of Public Works budget.
Here is part of the meeting notice along with the web address of the spreadsheet listing projects to be considered Thursday:
