Come out to the statehouse lawn next Sunday the 17th at noon for a family-friendly rally against fascism! The storming of the capitol building in D.C. is a wake-up call; we need to start naming things for what they are. We've seen years of witnessing the violence of the far-right grow while most people remain in denial, saying things like "the president wouldn't actually incite a mob to try to illegally maintain power by directly attacking a government building" and "the people making racist and anti-semitic death threats online are 'just joking'". Years of planting lies and seeds of white supremacy and hatred, and promises of a return to a glorious mythical past. All this has brought us to where we are today.
As became clear this week, the tensions in this country won't just go away when Trump leaves (or is forcibly removed from) power. We need to stand up now, and in the future, to make sure the events on January 6th were the beginning of the end for fascism in this country. This is not a threat we can keep ignoring, and the best weapons we have against it are making ourselves heard and talking to our neighbors. Come do both next Sunday! We're aware that there is a national call-out for the far right to show up at statehouses around the country on the 17th; we want to reclaim this space as a clear stand against fascism and ensure that even if they do show up, they are vastly outnumbered.
Bring your family and friends! There will be warm drinks and food to share in a covid-safe way, thought-provoking literature to explore, and sign-making supplies to express yourself with. Please be safe and wear a mask. We take the safety and security of everyone that will be present seriously and will be focusing on building community and deescalating any confrontation. Please come join us as we envision how to be together and support one another in ways grounded in mutual aid,
In solidarity,
