At this gathering, participants are urged to support a Valley restaurants by bringing a take-out meal. Enjoy some good food and learn about local updates on the COVID-19 front from two leaders from the Vermont Department of Health and members of MRVCares. Among the topics to be addressed are:
• Coronavirus cases in Washington County and in schools
• Implications of the new coronavirus variant
• Contact tracing process
• Vermont vaccination plans
• Herd immunity
Our expert guests will be Joan Marie Misek, District Director for the Vermont Department of Health's Barre Office of Local Health, and Karen Nelson, Public Health Nurse and School Health Liaison, also from the Barre office.
Joan Marie has been engaged in many aspects of COVID-19 response, including COVID testing, outbreak prevention and response, and vaccination clinic planning. She holds a Masters of Science degree from Tufts University in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition.
Karen Nelson, as a public health nurse specializes in school health and chronic disease prevention. Since March 2020 she has worked on the Department of Health's COVID-19 Pandemic Response with the Outbreak Prevention and Response Team.
MRVCares is grassroots, community-led campaign organized by local residents, created to help keep the rates of COVID-19 in the Valley low and residents and visitors safe.
