The Starksboro Public Library is pleased to announce we're hosting a Zoom Winter book group series. We're kicking off January with the Vermont Humanities Council's 2020-21 Vermont Reads book, The Hate U Give on Sunday, Jan. 31st from 4-5:30 pm.
Mississippi writer Angie Thomas' debut novel, The Hate U Give, runs headlong into the challenges faced by young black kids in a world that doesn't value their bodies or respect their voices. Yet it's a universal story about a young girl making the choice to speak out. Starr's struggle to find her voice will likely resonate deeply with any one who is facing down violence in their home, their neighborhood or their country.
If you're interested in reading The Hate U Give and participating in our January book group discussion, hosted by Mt. Abe student Anna Doucet and Starksboro Public Library board member Katie Antos-Ketcham, please contact Catherine or Lynn at the library to sign-up and borrow a copy of the book. We'd love to have you join us!
You can reach Catherine or Lynn by calling 453-3732 or by emailing starksboropl@comcast.net. The library is open to one family group at a time on Mondays from 10:00 - 6:00, Thursdays from 10:00 - 5:00, and Saturdays 9:00 - 2:00 and curbside pick-up is also available.
