Christmas will be celebrated at 6 pm on Christmas Eve – Thursday, Dec. 24 – at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Enosburg Falls. The pandemic prevents us from gathering in person, but all are welcome to join via Zoom.
The festival service will feature favorite Christmas carols. Classic Christmas scriptures will be read, including Isaiah's "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light," and the Nativity Story from Luke's Gospel. Pastor Titus Presler will preach.
There will be Holy Communion, to which all are invited, regardless of your church background. You are invited to pick up consecrated bread (packaged safely in baggies) from a container that is placed on the picnic table outside the Parish Office door at St. Matthew's (302 Church St.). Take it home with you. On Christmas Eve, as the Eucharist is celebrated at the altar, and we will all receive together (bread only, not wine). (Obviously this is not required – if you're not comfortable with this, just participate in the service spiritually.
The service will last no more than one hour, in order to leave time for family celebrations at home.
"How peculiar!" you might think. And you would be right! But these pandemic times are indeed peculiar and call sometimes for unusual measures.
