It takes a community to grow a tree within a knotweed patch, but trees grow stronger with supportive caretakers. Will you adopt a tree?
There is no cost to adopt a tree! We need common visitors of the park to come check up on their tree throughout the season!
Trees will be planted in a community effort on Green Up Day, Saturday May 3rd, at 1pm at the Park! Our goal is to plant ten trees on each side of the river. (10 trees for a school event on the other side on another day, 10 trees for a community event on Green Up Day on the park side). Each tree will be planted in an area that is heavily infested with Japanese Knotweed. Around each tree, we will lay some heavy plastic to prohibit knotweed from growing. We will also put a numbered stake which corresponds to each of the trees that we planted. A map will be created showing where each of these trees is located. We hope that you and other park visitors can help keep an eye on these trees, and help ensure that knotweed doesn’t take over.
Since each tree will have a unique number, YOU CAN ADOPT A TREE! We hope that everyone who goes to the park checks up on the trees for us, but we need caretaker leaders who are common park visitors to help make sure their tree is winning the battle against the knotweed!
Once these trees grow, they will provide shade and prohibit excessive knotweed growth! Please come help the day of the planting, or help check on our trees throughout the summer!
Please contact jbofvt@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting a tree, or if you have any questions about the event!
A rain day is set for the same time on May 4th.
