Our Last Training of 2020!

December 19th, 3-5pm- Circles for Equity and Antiracism, Facilitated by Claire Summers
*This is rescheduled from a previously canceled training

We in the restorative field often view circles as a place of equality. But how can we ensure that each individual voice is heard and valued equally? How can we avoid bias subtly showing itself in circle? Let's talk about Circles for Equity and Antiracism.

In this Saturday's training, we will be reviewing the basic structure of a restorative circle, to ensure everyone participating has the same base level of knowledge. We will talk about the key elements of most, if not all, restorative circles, and about how speaking time is distributed in different circle formats. Although the focus of this training will be on community-building ("tier 1") circle practice, the ideas and practices discussed will be applicable to circles of all types.

We will then have a participatory discussion of ideas for promoting equity and antiracism in the circle space. The facilitator will explain common methods of making circle practices more equitable, and participants will have the chance to deepen their own thoughts on creating inclusive circles. The format and content of the discussion will depend on the interests and ideas of the participants! We will close the training with a round or two of a circle, leaving time for any questions which may remain. We can't wait to see you there!
