Green Up Day 2014 is Saturday May 3. It is a wonderful Vermont tradition to keep our hometown a beautiful place.
In Morristown, you can pick up Green-Up bags which are now available in the Town Clerks office. At the Clerks, you can sign up and indicate on a map which section of road you plan to Green Up. This helps town coordinate coverage.
There have been changes this year at the Solid Waste District's Morristown transfer station in Morrisville, so they will NOT be accepting Green Up trash, just recyclables such as deposit bottles and scrap metal. For filled Green Up trash bags, bring them to a roll off container at the Municipal parking lot on Pleasant St across from River Arts in Morrisville. There should be refreshments available courtesy members of the Morristown Conservation Commission.
Note: this year NO TIRES will be accepted at either the transfer station or rolloff site at the parking lot downtown - there is no room or facility for handling tires. Tires found as roadside clean up can be left at the side of the road for the road crew to pick up, but PLEASE, no personal tires.
Hopefully we will have a nice day on Saturday. If it is more convenient, you can Green Up before Saturday and just leave the filled Green Up bags at roadside. The Morristown Highway Department will pick them up on Monday, May 5.
Please be careful when Greening up. Do it during daylight and wear brightly colored clothing so you are visible to traffic. Wear gloves and sturdy shoes. Carefully monitor children, and work facing traffic.
Your participation in this Vermont tradition helps keep our town and our state a special place.
