Women's Self-Defense Course Offered

Past event
May 3 to 4, 2014

In coordination with the 2014 National Sexual Violence Awareness Month campaign, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department is sponsoring a women’s self-defense course, also known as R.A.D.

The R.A.D (rape aggression defense) System is a nationally recognized program consisting of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for people of all ages and genders. An important part of the R.A.D. mission statement is to provide “educational opportunities for women, children, men and seniors to create a safer future for themselves. In doing this, we challenge society to evolve into an existence where violence is not an acceptable part of daily life.” This particular R.A.D course is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.

At the conclusion of the course, students are encouraged to participate in a scenario based exercise which involves utilizing a number of tactics and skills developed throughout the class.

The classes are being held at the Hyde Park Elementary School in Hyde Park, Vermont.

This is a 2 day course. Participants must attend both days.

Saturday & Sunday, May 3 & 4, 9-4p.m.
