Event: Thatcher historical info and community conversation

Tuesday, December 15, 7:00-8:30

What reactions do we have to the information that Partridge Thatcher, namesake of our brook and school, was a slaveholder? Let's talk about it on December 15.

This special session of Waterbury Library's Race Conversations will be co-hosted by the Waterbury Area Anti-Racism Coalition (WAARC) and Harwood High School students' Rooted Organizing Community (ROC) Racial Justice committee. The session will include small group discussions co-facilitated by community members and student leaders.

You can register and find a packet of informational materials that provides background context, including direct links to historical sources, at the WAARC website: www.waterburyantiracism.com

You will also see a statement there that clarifies that WAARC is not advocating to change the name at this time. The present focus is on having an inclusive conversation so that we can better understand racism and its connection to and impacts on our community.
