Restorative Community Justice of Southern Vermont
Our mission is to promote restorative practices that prevent, address, and change behaviors that hurt individuals, families, schools, and communities. These practices focus on repairing harm and reintegrating those involved in conflict back into the community by talking about important issues, improving relationships, creating a peaceable climate, and nurturing critical awareness of each person's valued place in their community. We create opportunities and provide resources for people to achieve these goals.
Upcoming Training!
Saturday, December 5th, 3-5pm, The Basics of Facilitation,
Facilitated by Claire Summers and Dan DeWalt
What does it mean to be a facilitator? What is your role and what responsibilities accompany it? How can you plan a circle when a circle is a living being? Come learn the tips and tricks of experienced circle facilitators! Dan DeWalt and Claire Summers (Webb) will be co-facilitating this training. Coming from different areas of experience and approaches to facilitation, participants will gain a diverse view of what it means to "be a facilitator."
The training will begin with an overview of types of circles, circle structures, and approaches to facilitation. Claire and Dan will each share briefly about their experiences with different types of circles. They will then move into activities and discussion about how to be adaptable during the course of a circle and respond to participants' needs, interests, and conflicts as they arise. This will be a largely participatory training; everyone is encouraged to come ready to think, share, and most importantly, listen.

Further Training!
Saturday, December 12th, 3-5pm, Nonviolent Communication and the Restorative Circle Process,
Facilitated by Laurie Rabut
This is our third NVC training in this current series, and will be a continuation of our exploration of Non-Violent (Compassionate) Communication within the context of how the NVC consciousness supports restorative circle work. This session will be geared for participants with some prior knowledge/training/experience with NVC concepts and skills, and will provide ample opportunities/activities for practicing empathic communication with one another.

From Outside RCJSVT!
Threshold Collaborative, in partnership with PAVE and the Vermont Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, has developed a listening project that will inform the development of restorative practices to address domestic and sexual harm. Our process and findings will be shared throughout the state through a report and online workshop. This work will provide the framework and content that incorporates the experiences, ideas, and hopes of survivors as Vermont moves to develop restorative pathways for survivors of intimate violence.
By developing this survivor-driven process, we can ensure that the ideas and voices of those most impacted are centered and the changes we promote have the best chance of promoting real change, accountability, and healing across the state of Vermont.
The first step of engaging survivors' voices is through the distribution of a survey, found at https://bit.ly/ipvrjsurvey.
We are hoping to share this as widely as possible so that we are able to get a cross-section of experiences from around the state and from diverse communities.
In order to do this, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are asking that you share this as broadly as possible: on your website, newsletter, local press, Facebook pages, Blogs, Front Porch Forum, and with the larger community. We are interested in tapping the experiences of people who have been involved in programs as well as those in your community who have not necessarily made use of available services. All responses are completely confidential, although people who answer the survey will have an opportunity to speak in more depth if they choose to.
If you would like more information or to talk through your ideas about distribution, please email clairewebb147@gmail.com or adtcrow@comcast.net.
