The Woodstock Housing Working Group was created by the Economic Development Commission to review the comprehensive 2018 Housing Study
(https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7obrcejuzyox5oy/AACfWBEmh6gZpHGiqXg7C1KEa?dl=0&preview=Woodst[...]pdf) and to make specific recommendations to the EDC and Selectboard regarding specific actions to be taken to meet the housing needs of the community.
The 2018 report included a section on "Findings and Recommendations." From that list the working group chose to pursue the following:
- Recognize that Woodstock is an employment and service center and take responsibility for ensuring that a segment of the town's workers can find good quality/affordable housing within the community.
- Work to diversify housing availability in the community, from rental/ownership, pricing and form of housing perspectives – with the goal of providing more opportunity for younger and moderate income households to find housing in Woodstock.
Building on that, the group has prioritized infilling of available spaces and the conversion of underutilized, existing properties into housing units instead of pursuing large "green field" developments at this time.
We have asked several housing organizations to provide us with specific recommendations for financial incentives, regulatory changes or programmatic initiatives that the town could institute that could help make that happen. We have invited them to meet with us on Monday, December 7th via Zoom and provide more information and detail.
The meeting is open to the public. If you have some specific recommendations that you would like to share, please send me an email in advance so that I can put you on the list of people making presentations. Here is the link for the Zoom meeting at 6pm on Monday, December 7th.
