School Board Meeting Tomorrow Re: Leasing Macy's

Past event
Nov 17, 2020, 6 to 9 PM

Tomorrow, Tuesday November 17th at 6:00pm, the School Board will be meeting. While there are some other items on the agenda, the big decision will be whether to sign a lease for the old Macy's building. The immediate use would be for the bulk of Burlington High School students and staff, who are currently not able to use the BHS buildings due to PCB contamination. Signing a lease would allow BHS to return to in-person learning in the hybrid model by early March. However, the costs for preparing the building and yearly rent would be significant and unbudgeted. The only alternate solution on the table are trailers, but they would not be ready until late spring at the earliest.

See presentation from Nov 5th board meeting https://go.boarddocs.com/vt/bsdvt/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=BUYLE45624B8 for comparison of Macy's to trailers, but note that the costs for Macy's are higher than in that presentation. Also on the agenda is an update on short-term alternative spaces, including potentially using UVM spaces in December and January. As always, there will be an opportunity to provide public comment. See full agenda, Zoom link and supporting documents at https://go.boarddocs.com/vt/bsdvt/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=BV7RUZ6EE8E6.
