We didn't get to meet last week, so we'll meet this Saturday, November 14 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Some things we'll discuss:
Do I need to heat my coop? Do I need to add light? Do I need to close up all the openings? What do I feed in winter? How do I keep the water from freezing? Do I need to lock my birds up in cold weather? How do I prevent frost-bite?
The answers to these questions might surprise some of you, and there are low-cost, low-tech solutions to most winter issues.
Join us outside, with masks, temperature check, etc. (we can meet under cover if it's raining...), and bring your own folding chair and notebook, but come prepared for the temperatures that day. Cost is anonymous donation to the High Hopes 4-H Club, as little or as much as you feel is right. Limit of 25 persons per session.
I don't consider myself an expert, but I do research well -- a LOT! It's hard to stay ahead of these bright 4-H'ers! I've had poultry for 10-ish years now, and I think I've experienced quite a bit, but I am always happy to learn from others, so this will be a discussion not a lecture!
E-mail atahorse@gmail.com to indicate interest and I'll send you a pre-gathering assessment for you to do in your own coop ahead of time!
Happy Fall!
