Commemoration of the End of World War One at Northfield Common 11 November 2020

World War One Armistice was signed at Compiegne, France 1111 hours on 11 November 1918.
We invite you to a remembrance commemoration of that event one hundred and two years later.
Two Hundred sixteen Northfield Citizens served during the First World War. One of the first Vermont soldier's killed was Captain Phillip Sherman, a Norwich University graduate class of 1907. He was aboard the troop ship Tuscania when it was sunk by the Germans. Captain Sherman was married to Marie Beryl Hildreth of Northfield.
Private Wilmer Sorell enlisted in Company F, 1st Vermont Infantry, Northfield, Vermont. He died of wounds in Gorieux, France and returned to the United States buried at Arlington Cemetery.
