Zoning Board (Outside Village) Hearing Nov. 5

Greetings,

The Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) is meeting tonight, Thursday, November 5th @ 6:00 p.m. for a virtual hearing held on Microsoft Teams.

One application is on the docket, which is an appeal of a Zoning (building) Permit that I issued for a duplex located at 101 Brigham Hill Road. Several neighbors have joined in the appeal as they are party to a civil Settlement Agreement wherein it calls out that only a single-family home was agreed to be constructed on this lot and on another lot located at 105 Brigham Hill Road.

You may join the meeting in the following ways:
• Join via Microsoft Teams at https://tinyurl.com/ESSEXZBA. Depending on your browser, you may need to call in for audio (below).
• Join via conference call (audio only): (802) 377-3784 | Conference ID: 480 347 627#
• Public wifi is available at the Essex municipal offices, libraries, and hotspots listed here: https://publicservice.vermont.gov/content/public-wifi-hotspots-vermont

A few reminders:
Chickens: If you do not live in the Conservation Zone (C1) or Agriculture-Residential Zone (AR) in the Town Outside the Village and you have chickens on your lot, you will need a zoning permit. Please call me at 878-1343 or email me at skelley@essex.org. I will be happy to help you figure things out.

Airbnb: If you are operating an Airbnb, you need to be permitted with the Town Outside the Village. Please contact me (same info as above) and I will be happy to assist.

TOWN OR VILLAGE: If you do not know if you live in the Town Outside the Village or the Village, you can refer to the account number on your water or sewer bill. It will be a 10-digit number. It is also listed on your property tax bill (not the SPAM number). The first number tells you where you live. If you live in the Town, the number will begin with a 2. If you live in the Village it will begin with a 1. As an example, the property identification account number for 81 Main Street is 1037098001. The 1 represents a town property, the next 3 digits represent the tax map number, next 3 digits represent the parcel number, and last 3 digits represent the lot number. The irony is that the Town office is located in the Village!

Thanks and hope you are all having a great day! Be safe out there!

Sharon L. Kelley, Zoning Administrator
