Hi Folks- Gabrielle Stebbins and Tiff Bluemle are hosting a ZOOM Cafe on Mental Health. It is being held Tuesday 10/20 from 6-7pm. This is a bit last minute, so hopefully it will be posted in time. But I did want to say that I joined their Zoom Cafe on Climate/Energy/Water a couple weeks ago and thought that they did a great job hosting, listening to input, and moderating an interesting discussion. It was great to have a community forum and hear from people since that is so hard to do during COVID times. I'd recommend joining the ZOOM Cafe and checking their websites for future forums!
Invitation to ZOOM Cafe on Mental Health - Tuesday, October 20th, 6-7 pm
This week, VPR reported several alarming statistics:
So far, statewide overdoses are up 36% this year over last year, when comparing the data for January through July.
Rutland area school staff say it can take up to six months to get a student in to see a therapist.
Mental health professionals report seeing double the number of people in crisis than last year.
But while events of the past seven months may have stoked additional demand for mental health services, the system has been strained for years.
The role of mental health professionals in supporting healthy communities is clear. What, then, must we do to ensure our capacity to meet mental health needs?
Join Gabrielle Stebbins and Tiff Bluemle next Tuesday to explore this issue with Chittenden 8-1 State Rep Candidate Tanya Vyhovsky and community mental health providers Christina Pasnick, Umesh Acharya, and Gabriel Brunelle.
