This week, VPR reported several alarming statistics:
-So far, statewide overdoses are up 36% this year over last year, when comparing the data for January through July.
-Rutland area school staff say it can take up to six months to get a student in to see a therapist.
-Mental health professionals report seeing double the number of people in crisis than last year.
But while events of the past seven months may have stoked additional demand for mental health services, the system has been strained for years.
The role of mental health professionals in supporting healthy communities is clear. What, then, must we do to ensure our capacity to meet mental health needs?
Join Gabrielle Stebbins and Tiff Bluemle next Tuesday to explore this issue with Chittenden 8-1 State Rep Candidate Tanya Vyhovsky and community mental health providers Christina Pasnick, Umesh Acharya, and Gabriel Brunelle.
