The VT Genealogy Library's online class this week is "DNA Tests: Which Type & Which Company?" It is aimed at those genealogists who wish to understand the differences between the three types of DNA tests and to determine which of them will best address their needs.
After explaining the types of tests and how they work, we will cover the offerings from the four major testing companies to help you decide on the best fit for your situation. We will also cover costs, testing strategies, data security and the ethics involved with testing.
If you see the possibility of DNA testing in your future, then this talk will provide valuable insight and information. The class fee is $10, it includes a handout and it will be conducted exclusively online using meeting software from Zoom. It begins at 10:30 AM on Saturday and to sign up simply go to www.vtgenlib.org and click on "Register Here." If you have questions, please write to us at news@vtgenlib.org for help.
On the following Saturday, we will present a related talk entitled, "Understanding and Using Your DNA Test Results" for those individuals who are awaiting or have already received their DNA test results. That class will feature actual results from all four testing companies, it will explain the most useful tools at each site & how they work and it will demonstrate how this data can help you solve some of your toughest genealogical challenges.
