Super-Timely Show Coming to Farr's Hill

Past event
Oct 17, 2020, 2 to 4 PM

Come to Farr's Hill on Elm Street this Saturday afternoon to see a stage adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's 1935 satirical novel "It Can't Happen Here". It will be performed "radio drama" style, in an appropriately distanced but fully live version, by a BarnArts touring ensemble.

In the play the populist buffoon Buzz Windrip unexpectedly defeats Franklin D. Roosevelt for the 1936 Democratic nomination, then wins the presidential election, declares martial law, and begins locking up his foes. The story's hero is Doremus Jessup, a mild-mannered Vermont newspaper editor who chooses to take a stand and use the press to fight tyranny. A daring "What if?" imagining the prospects for American democracy.

Tickets are $15, available at www.chandler-arts.org and at the "door", but purchase ahead of time is encouraged.

Bring blankets and chairs, also any snacks or beverages needed.
