Clean Water and Climate: How Much Progress?

Past event
Oct 7, 2020, 6 to 7 PM

Hello Neighbors!

You may recognize the names Tiff Bluemle and Gabrielle Stebbins - yes, they are the two Democratic candidates for State Rep for the South End of Burlington. In response to hearing the concerns of many of us during phone calls and forums and socially distant "backyard" events, Tiff and Gabrielle are coordinating with field experts and community members to offer one-hour "Zoom Cafes" on four topics through the month of October. These include (1) climate change and water quality, (2) mental health, (3) affordable housing, and (4) rebuilding the Vermont economy after COVID. (Yes, they recognize there are many other issues that are critically important and need to be addressed - these are just the start...).

The FIRST Zoom Cafe is THIS Wednesday, October 7th, from 6-7 pm and is focused on climate change and water quality. Mary Sullivan, a current State Rep for our district and a champion of climate change issues will give an update on what has been accomplished so far in the Legislature, and where we need to go from here. Brian Voigt, a UVM lecturer and scientist with the Lake Champlain Basin Program, and researcher and author of "An Assessment of the Economic Value of Clean Water in Lake Champlain" will discuss how this paper explores not the cost to clean the Lake up, but rather, the value of a clean Lake (or, the cost to not clean up the Lake). Tiff and Gabrielle will moderate, ask questions and provide additional information on both topics.

Please join! For 10 minutes, the entire hour, or, watch it at your leisure once they have posted recordings on their websites!

You MUST RSVP. There are two ways to register: 1) copy and paste the link above into your browser or; 2) go to tiffbluemle.com/virtualcafe.

Thanks for reading - and hope you'll
