HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULED FOR October 3, 2020
The Mad River Resource Management Alliance Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will be held at the Harwood Union High School in Duxbury on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. So if you are an Alliance resident or small business from Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren or Waterbury and have household hazardous wastes like pool chemicals, mercury products, solvents, degreasers, oven and drain cleaners, paints, adhesives and more, you can bring up to 10 gallons of these wastes and all of your pesticides, architectural paints (oil and latex), primary and small rechargeable batteries and all your compact fluorescent lamps at no charge for proper disposal. After the first 10 gallons of liquid or pounds of hazardous waste there is a $5.00 per unit fee to help cover the disposal cost. Duxbury is in the Central Vermont Solid Waste District so Duxbury residents would have to pay a $10.00 registration fee and $5.00 per pound or gallon for all waste beyond architectural paint, pesticides, primary batteries and small rechargeable batteries and all compact fluorescent bulbs. During these pandemic times please wear a mask when delivering material to this event and place all the material in the trunk of your car, hatchback or the bed of your pick up truck. Please stay in your vehicle and the contractor will collect the material. While you're at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection, you can visit the paint drop and swap where folks can bring good cans of paint that they don't need and you can pick these up and use them for your painting tasks. You can also visit Waterbury True Value Hardware Store, Aubuchon's Hardware Store and Bisbees in Waitsfield for recycling your architectural paints. There is no charge for this program. If you have any mercury thermostats you are eligible to receive a coupon valued at $5.00 that can be mailed to the Thermostat Recycling Corporation. The cover must be on the thermostat to be eligible for the incentive fee. If you have a mercury thermometer, we will swap you for a digital thermometer at this event at no charge. Kinney's Drug and Variety will also accept mercury thermometers on a daily basis but you cannot swap for a digital thermometer at this store. Small businesses should preregister by October 2, 2020 by contacting John Malter at 244-7373.
