Live theater! BarnArts brings IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE to Factory Point Town Green in Manchester

Sinclair Lewis's 1935 satirical novel, written in Vermont and adapted for the stage, is performed "radio drama" style in an appropriately distanced but fully live version by a BarnArts touring ensemble. The populist buffoon Buzz Windrip unexpectedly defeats Franklin D. Roosevelt for the 1936 Democratic nomination, then wins the presidential election, declares martial law, and begins locking up his foes. The story's hero is Doremus Jessup, an mild-mannered Vermont newspaper editor who chooses to take a stand and use the press to fight tyranny. A daring "What if?" imagining the prospects for American democracy.
