Are you a Burlington middle or high schooler? Are you interested in impacting others and your community in meaningful ways?

This workshop is part of the free Our Lives Our Lungs Youth Empowerment Series for Burlington middle and high school-aged youth interested in opportunities to learn skills to advocate for positive changes about issues they care about.

In this virtual event, national speaker and advocate Lincoln Mondy, from Advocates for Youth, will share info about the film he created to raise awareness of tobacco issues and prompt critical questions about activism, public health, and the worth of the black body in the US. He will help you think about what you've been taught about power, who holds it, and what those with power look like.

The event will also feature a panel of 3 local activists who will share their stories of being involved in change efforts in the Burlington community with time for participants to ask questions. Panelists include:

--Liza Ryan - Champlain College Student involved in advocacy work related to substance abuse prevention treatment, stigma, police brutality, mental health

--Tian Berry - Community volunteer bringing attention to issues of homelessness in Burlington

--Safiya Ibrahim - Member of Above the Influence Burlington at BHS, participation in Our Lives Our Lungs video and public education about tobacco industry targeting of minority populations
